Experience the Florida Keys

Explore the Best Attractions & Activities

When visiting the Florida Keys, it’s important to explore your surroundings. What better way to get to know the Keys than to explore more than just one? During your stay in Marathon, be sure to check out our surrounding islands, including Big Pine Key, Islamorada, Key Largo, and Key West.

Big Pine Key

Just one island away from Marathon, Big Pine Key is part of Florida’s Lower Keys. Big Pine Key is your gateway to the offshore island of Bahia Honda State Park, the National Key Deer Refuge, wreck-diving at Adolphus Busch, and Blue Hole, a freshwater quarry with native Florida plants and wildlife. Find a spot on Calusa Beach for an exceptional view of the Florida Keys sunset before returning to Marathon’s Banana Bay Resort & Marina for the night.

Islamorada

Islamorada is situated between Everglades National Park and the deep waters of the Florida Straight. Islamorada’s six islands are known as the Sport-Fishing Capital of the World. But beyond fishing, Islamorada offers many activities and attractions. Catch a marine animal show at the Theater of the Sea, brush up on your diving knowledge at the History of Diving Museum, and grab some grub at the Islamorada Brewing Company.

Key Largo

Known as the Dive Capital of the World, Key Largo is home to the world’s largest artificial coral reef, the 510 ft USS Spiegel Grove shipwreck, as well as the John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. Explore the clear waters of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary on a snorkel, kayak, or glass-bottom-boat excursion, and be sure to stop into the Florida Keys Visitor Center.

Key West

Explore the southernmost point in the United States in lively Key West. Shop on energetic Duval Street and make sure to visit the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum. View the pastel-colored conch houses on the palm-lined streets of town before catching a beautiful sunset from Mallory Square. Be sure to venture to the Dry Tortugas National Park by ferry or seaplane to discover the history of this remote island.
